Beaverkill Covered Bridge — NY-53-0 We are pleased to inform you that the Beaverkill Covered Bridge is officially listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places. As you may know, the National Register is the nation's official list of properties worthy of preservation. Listing on the National Register recognizes the importance of these properties to the history of our country and provides them with a measure of protection. This is certainly great news not only for the Beaverkill Covered Bridge, but for all of us working so diligently to preserve our bridges. Congratulations to the Friends of the Beaverkill for working so tirelessly to to make this happen.
Jay Covered Bridge — NY-16-01 October 14, 2007 was a historic day for the residents of Jay, NY and for the Jay Covered Bridge. Having been closed since 1997, it is now completely restored, back in its original location and open for pedestrian traffic. What a long journey this has been for the residents of Jay and for the bridge. More than 200 people were in attendance at this historic event. Town of Jay Supervisor, Randy Douglas was the master of ceremonies. Town of Jay Superintendent of Highways and DPW Director Chris Garrow cut the ribbon for the Jay Covered Bridge as members of the town board stood by. Ava Douglas, wife of former supervisor Tom Douglas, cut the ribbon to dedicate Douglas Memorial Park next to the bridge in honor of her husband and father-in- law, Art Douglas, both who served as supervisor in the town of Jay. The American Legion Post 504 from Au Sable Forks served as the color guard. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by students from Holy Name School and Susan Richards sang the national anthem. The Au Sable Forks Elementary School choir sang, "This is America." What a wonderful celebration! News From Other States Virginia — Good news! Patrick County has received a grant for $227,000 to assist in rehabilitating the Jack's Creek Covered Bridge VA-68-0. They hope to get another grant next year for the Bob White
Covered Bridge VA-68-01.
New Hampshire — Sawyers/Cresson Covered Bridge
NH-03-05. On a recent visit to New Hampshire, we stopped
by the Sawyers/Cresson Covered Bridge. We immediately noticed some damage to the upper portal of one
end of the bridge. It was evident that the damage was very
recent as the boards were still lying on the ground. What a
shame as this bridge was recently painted and looks fantastic. Mark Your Calendars Covered Bridge Postcard Show — We have had a great response to the Covered Bridge Postcard show. Thanks everyone! What a great opportunity this will be for postcard collectors and anyone new to this hobby. To date, we know we will have duplicate postcards from two fabulous collections, namely, the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges and the Richard Donovan Collection and a few others. You won't want to miss out on this great opportunity to purchase postcards never offered to the public before. The show will be held in conjunction with the Bucks County Covered Bridge Festival. Thanks to Wayne Seifert of Chalfont, PA, we have a beautiful, indoor location along with plenty of tables. Since our original announcement, however, the date has changed. The new date is Saturday, October 18th. We also believe we will have someone offering covered bridge patches as well. If you have duplicate covered bridge postcards or patches you would like to offer to other covered bridge collectors, (who are no doubt tired of paying the exorbitant prices on eBay) please contact us soon so we can reserve a table for you. Please note there will be a $15 set up fee. For more information, or to reserve a table, contact us at: bobtrish68@frontiernet.net or 167 Williams Rd., Sherburne, NY 13460 or 607-674-9656 after 5 pm.

www.coveredbridgefestival.com Attention Covered Bridge Patch Collectors . . . What began as a simple inventory of Bob's Covered Bridge Patch collection quickly grew into an extensive list, by state, of approximately 450 covered bridge patches known to exist to date. Whew, what a task! This list includes small, colored photos as well as specific information such as: city/town identification, measurements and colors of each individual patch. For collectors who would like to inventory their personal collections, there is also a section to indicate whether or not you have the patch in your collection and the amount you paid for it. Before this material goes to press, and to ensure that it is as accurate as possible, we would love to hear from other covered bridge patch collectors. If you are a collector of covered bridge patches, and would like to offer your assistance, please contact us as soon as possible. Hopefully, this material will be available to the public in the spring. Special thanks to Clyde Bradley from Pittsburgh, PA and Jim Ward from Milan, OH for sharing their knowledge and expertise with us. We couldn't have done it without them. For more information, contact us at: bobtrish68@frontiernet.net or write: 167 Williams Rd., Sherburne, NY 13460. You may also reach us evenings after 5 pm at 607-674-9656.
