The lower chords at the north end of the bridge were completely rotted away. Only the functioning members at the north ends of both trusses will be repaired. For details see Creamery Bridge Engineering Assessment above.

Notice the steel I-beam threaded through the web of the truss. In order to work on the truss members, the forces of compression and tension caused by dead and live load in them must be released. The contractor has done this by suspending the bridge by its upper chords. The block between the upper and secondary upper chord at the I-beam was inserted to allow both upper chords to share the weight of the bridge.

Some unset "trunnels." Work continues in a typical Vermont winter.
